A new American Airlines Kids Fly Free! promotion to Crested Butte, Colorado, is valid for travel from Jan. 2 to Feb. 16, 2006. One child, ages two-12, flies free per each paying adult booking a travel package through the Gunnison-Crested Butte Tourism Association. Packages start at US$899 per adult and US$103 per child, 12 and under, and include four nights lodging in a two-bedroom condominium, three days of lift tickets, airfare from any US city and roundtrip transfers.

Travellers looking for discounts up to 25 per cent on a ski vacation can check out The Pollard hotel in Red Lodge, Montana, which teams up with nearby Red Lodge Mountain Resort to offer various packages to April 15.

Skate-ski sprint race a new twist on Nordic
Nordic sprint racing will get a street beat edge at an upcoming nighttime event on Dec. 6 at Silver Star Mountain Resort near Vernon. Called XC Amplified, some of the worlds top nordic (cross country) ski racers will sprint head-to-head in a 650-metre dash for cash. Under the lights, competitors will skate-ski against the international field for a share of the $10,000 purse. Amateur racers will also be permitted to race against the pros. In Germany, these events have drawn hundreds of thousands of spectators, says Silver Star. It is a must-see event, even if youve never donned skinny skis in your life.

Skiing naked sounds like a mighty chilly pastime, but thats what the Lake Louise Inn has in mind with its new Martinis, Massage & Moguls package, available through April 15, 2006. New Family Ski Package Canada at Whistler resort
Ski lovers can take advantage of a new five-night package to Whistler that includes accommodations, two adults and two kids four-day lift ticket and a free one-hour family tube park pass at the regions new tube park, which opens in December. The package starts at $583 per adult, while bookings made before Dec.12 earns a kids stay, ski and tube free option.
Early bookings also mean children receive free equipment rentals and return ground transportation between Vancouver and Whistler with each paying adult.

Big White/Silver Star Stay Overnight and Ski Free
Free skiing is available at Big White and Silver Star Resorts in the Okanagan Valley until Dec. 15, for those who book accommodations up to that date. The Ski Free offer is based on double occupancy at select hotels and at one- or two-bedroom condos. It is also valid based on quad occupancy at select three- or four-bedroom condos and vacation homes.
There is a two-night minimum requirement, and some restrictions apply. The deal is valid on new bookings only, and XC must be quoted at the time of booking.
Snowcats offer heli-terrain, with less mobility, lower cost
For those who find heli-skiing a bit hard on the wallet, cat skiing offers a viable alternative. Snowcats are those big, tank-track machines that most of us only see grooming the slopes at ski resorts after the lifts close down. Theyre slower, and they may not be able to access some mountain locations that a chopper can reach. But cats run in whatever nature is dishing out, be it howling winds, driving snow or soupy fog conditions that can ground a chopper.
