Albertas capital city, Edmonton, is known for its warm hospitality. Here you will find the West Edmonton Mall – the world’s largest shopping and entertainment centre. With over 800 shops and services, 100 eateries, two hotels, seven theme park attractions, a spa and a casino, the West Edmonton Mall has made it into the Guinness World Book of Records. Edmonton is also well known for its scenic river valley and numerous art and music festivals.
A few hours away you will find another major city, Calgary. Calgary hosted the Winter Olympics in 1988 and is home of the Calgary Stampede, which attracts millions of visitors each year. The Calgary Stampede is the largest outdoor rodeo in the world, and it happens every July attracting the best professional cowboys in a challenge of bronc busting, bull-riding, roping and chuck wagon racing. Tourists get in on the fun with pancake breakfasts on the streets, square dancing, parties, parades and an enormous midway and exhibition. Other Calgary attractions include the world famous Calgary Zoo, Botanical Gardens and Prehistoric Park.
If you are looking for something a little more adventurous, the Bow River, which flows right through the City is a world famous trout fishing spot. You can also find activities such as hot air ballooning, canoeing, kayaking, horseback riding and hiking.
Alberta’s Badlands offer Canada’s dinosaur capital with the world’s largest dinosaur and the Royal Tyrrell Museum in Drumheller. There is lots to explore in Alberta, travel the province and see the abundant wildlife, the countless historic sites, and the diverse scenery.
