After decades of being a Sears cardholder, we are closing our accounts. We made a hotel reservation through Sears Travel with Bond Place Hotel in Toronto. Upon checking in, Bond Place Hotel demanded $150 deposit. We presented our confirmation paperwork from Sears, but the manager wouldn’t even look at it.
She agreed to accepted the US currency that we had yet to exchange. Upon checkout they charged us a 5% conversion rate (almost twice the market rate) and refunded us in Canadian currency. None of these fees were disclosed. The hotel blamed Sears Travel and Sears blamed us for not double checking behind them with the hotel.
