Brisas Del Caribe has not changed much over the last 3 times we’ve holiday in Varadero, Cuba. First time was in 2009 with our daughter & family. Had some issues with our rooms then and were promptly fixed by relocating to the main building close to the buffet and bars.
Second time 2010 was the wife and I flying solo and our room was as we expected, clean when we first entered with daily maid service keeping room as we first arrived. Third return with a couple of our friends was March 3rd-10th 2011. Again rooms were fine with our group.
Now the food, it really depends on what you really want, one must remember your in Cuba, their tastes do not really follow North American cuisine. But being the fussy eater that I am, I never went hungry. I will say that this last trip first day’s menu really sucked. BUT the rest of the stay was awesome. Tried the Italian and International al a carts and they were superior to the daily buffet. But don’t get me wrong breakfast was my favorite meal of the day and I don’t normally eat breakfast at home. (Fantastic omelets).
Beach and location. To me this is key! Brisas’s beach is great, always a chair was available for our crew. Staff were always helpful to see if we needed anything but not to the point of being bothersome. NO WE DID NOT HAVE TO TIP THEM TO GET SERVICE.
Bars. All ways plentiful if you like ron (That’s rum). Wide selection of the hard stuff as well. Beer was always available.
Staff were always good to us except the front desk can be a bit of a pain at times but I believe that comes from all the whining tourists mostly from here in Canada, and you know who you are. It comes down to you get what you pay for. Really for a trip for 2 all inclusive $2000.00 taxes in you really can’t go wrong. Let’s face it you come mainly for the +30C weather. So if the weather is good everybody usauly are happy. But when the weather is bad don’t blame it on the resort or the staff.
Night life. There is some entertainment but I would let people find out for themselves to make up their own minds. Me I’m up at 4:30-5:00AM get coffee at the 24hr snack bar and meet people from all over. 7:00AM have breakfast with the crew then decide what to do. Most likely go down to the beach hit some waves, sun tan a bit, then walk the entire length of the beach approx 12km’s one way and back 12km’s get some more sun and rum it up.
Dinner at 7:00 PM. Then amuse ourselves and joke with the staff in the evening. Keep them happy you’ll be happy. A kind word and a smile is the way to go. Then when our crew decides it’s bed time I stick around the lobby & bar with the music from home and enjoy the evening until 12:00 – 1:00 AM and start all over again at 4:30 – 5:00 AM.
OH Yeah, I’m the one that carries the portable IPOD boom box on back everyday with the tunes everyone wanted to hear.
It should be noted our first trip was in 2002 and second trip was in 2008.
Different resorts and had a great time at both.
A big hello to Vic & Joan, you guys made it a blast this trip.
So what I’m trying to say is that see you next year Varadero.
P.S. The flight crew of Sunwing flights 678 & 679 were fantastic.
