Advanced adventure skiers, who like to explore mountains unsullied by ski lifts and lodges, will want to know about a change in pricing structure for heli-skiing at some heli-skiing operations. These companies have chosen to eliminate downhill distance limits on their heli-ski packages, and instead offer "unlimited vertical" as an attractive incentive. For instance, Great Canadian Heli-skiing offers unlimited vertical on all its packages. In the past, the packages had typically included vertical decent totals of 30,500 vertical metres over six days, but skiers wanted more, said company rep Kati Strickland. Then, they had to pay extra for more chopper rides. But this year, the rate structure on the packages has been adjusted to allow for unlimited rides and runs. "Many of our guests were exceeding the guaranteed allotment and were left paying extra after four and a half days of their week-long holiday," said Strickland. "After 19 years of operation, we know how much people on average ski (eight to 12 runs per day), and we believe that everyone will benefit by simply paying the costs up front." February 3, 2007 - Ottawa Winterlude Getaway
Ottawa Tourism has introduced a Winterlude Family Getaway from $223 for a family of four, valid weekends from Feb. 2-18. The package includes two nights hotel accommodation (for four people, maximum two adults), all Winterlude activities (free to general public), family admission to one of the following attractions, Canadian Museum of Civilization, National Gallery of Canada, Canadian War Museum, and a Rideau Centre Visitor Values coupon book.
