May 9, 2005 - Wynn Las Vegas - Newest Resort in Vegas Has the Wow Factor

Wynn Las Vegas Hotel Casino, which opened April 28, 2005, is touting to be on of the biggest, glitzy hotels on the Las Vegas Strip. The cost to build Wynn Las Vegas was an estimated $2.7 billion dollars.

It has 2,716 rooms, and is described as a "refreshingly elegant, tranquil environment that personally caters to the specific needs of each guest". Tranquil in Las Vegas? I guess with $2.7 billion dollars, anything is possible.

CanJet, Canada's Low-Fare airline, launched the first phase of its western Canada service today with the inaugural
Calgary-Toronto flight departing Calgary International Airport at 12:50 p.m. local time. Julie N. May 29, 2005 - Dominican Republic cleared for malaria scare

The Canadian Public Health Agency (CPHA) is no longer recommending that those heading to the Dominican Republic's eastern province of La Altagracia take anti-malaria medication.

The agency began making the recommendation late last year after malaria surfaced in the province, home to popular Punta Cana. However, recent assessments of the situation convinced it that local health authorities have been "effective in controlling the outbreak."

The agency consulted with local authorities and the US Centers for Disease Control before its latest decision. The PHAC says those going to tourist areas should use personal insect protective measures against mosquito bites.

PHAC recommends as well, that travellers who become sick or feel unwell on their return to Canada should seek a medical assessment with their personal physician. Travellers should inform their physician, without being asked, that they have been travelling or living outside of Canada, and where they have been.
